Issue

Customer receives Error message: Stat 30 on File 6 (PRNTFILE.DAT) logging into RDP after upgrading to newer versions of Pervasive.  This error may occur when a customer upgrades to Pervasive v9 or v10.  This error indicates a Pervasive incompatibility problem. The upgraded Pervasive engine is trying to read files indexed in an older version. Some files indexed in versions 5.x or 6.x may be unreadable by newer Pervasive versions. In this example, Pervasive cannot open the prntfile.dat (the file that stores printer information for RDP).

Solution:

Use Pervasive Rebuild utility to rebuild the prntfile.dat. The prntfile.dat file can be found in the RDP root directory.

  1. Select Rebuild from the Start | Pervasive | PSQL ## | Utilities submenu to open the Pervasive Rebuild Wizard.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Click the Add button and browse to the file listed in the error (in this case, the PRNTFILE.DAT be found in the RDP1202 root directory.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Review the Rebuild Options and make appropriate changes.
  6. Click Next.
  7. When rebuild is successful, a message is displayed.
  8. If the pervasive rebuild utility is not able to re-index the file correctly, it may be necessary to exit all RDP users and rename the existing prntfile.dat file.
  9. Upon entering RDP for the first time after renaming the file, the RDP system creates a new, blank prntfile.dat in the correct format.
  10. All printers must be added into the file manually.

Note: As part of the RDPWin Version 2.xx upgrade and Pervasive upgrade processes, RDP customers must run the 994 utility on all critical files, which does not, however, rebuild the prntfile.dat file.
