RDP software requires Pervasive.SQL from Pervasive Software, one of the fastest and most reliable client-server databases available. It is in use at millions of sites worldwide.  For details please see  Purchasing Pervasive Software from RDP.

Pervasive.SQL Upgrade Steps on a Windows 2000 Server

RDP utilizes Pervasive.SQL 2000 as its database record manager.  The Pervasive software (Pervasive.SQL 2000) must be installed both on the server and each client workstation.

It is important to keep the Pervasive software up to date since various bugs have been fixed and improvements have been added.  Use the following steps for updating Pervasive.SQL 2000 to Service Pack 3 (SP3).  Please note, with the Service Pack 3 update, the Pervasive software is now referred to as Pervasive.SQL 2000i.

Service Pack CD

Due to the size of Pervasive's Service Pack 3 (SP3), RDP recommends ordering the update on CD.  Order the CD by visiting the Pervasive website and clicking the links for Downloads | Updates | Service Pack CD.

High Speed Internet Connection Download

  1. Select a workstation that has High Speed Internet Access and Carbon Copy32 installed. (RDP Support can connect to this workstation if problems occur during the installation.)
  2. Warning: Before downloading the SP3 update, make sure you have a folder available that is not on your system PATH and is not under you PVSW or BTI directory. For example, create a folder named C:\MYSP3 on the Server and direct the download to that location.
  3. Download the Pervasive.SQL 2000i Server for Windows NT/2000 (72.3 Mb). Pervasive requires all new customers to register on line prior to downloading.

Update the Server with SP3

  1. Once the download is complete, exit ALL users from the RDP system.
  2. Login as Administrator on the Server. Stop the Pervasive engine on the server. Use the following steps.

    A. From the Windows NT/2000 Data Server, click Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | Services.
    B. Right-click the "Pervasive.SQL 2000 Transactional Service" and select "Stop".
    C. Right-click the "Pervasive.SQL 2000 Relational Service" and select "Stop".
  3. Unzip the download file NTSP3.zip to your local C:\MYSP3 directory.
  4. Run the Setup.exe from your local and direct it to the PVSW folder on the server.

Update the Client Workstations:

  1. Quit BTRBOX95 on all Windows 98 machines.  Double click on the BtrBox95 icon and then choose "Quit".
  2. Run the client setup program from each workstation.  The client setup program is located in the server's PVSW\Clients\Win folder. For more details please refer to the Windows 2000 document on how to install the Pervasive client on a Windows 98, Windows ME, XP or Windows2000 professional workstations.

NetMeeting or
Remote Desktop
To provide the highest level of support, RDP requires access to your system with Remote Desktop or Microsoft NetMeeting.  Carbon Copy and other remote tools are not supported.  See Hardware Requirements for more details.
RDPWin RDPWin is our Microsoft .Net Windows-based software.  It accesses the same database at the same time as your existing RDP-DOS and Internet Reservation Module (IRM).  Please review:
For more information see Hardware Requirements.
