Thermal Printers Available for the SDC Interface

Added: 7/19/2000 - Updated: 12/28/2007 - Version - 12.02 and Higher

Overview

With Version 12.02, revision #108, a mix of thermal and dot matrix credit card receipt printers may be used in conjunction with the SDC Credit Card interface.  Thermal printers are very fast (printing credit card receipts in about one second) and quiet.  Included with this enhancement are three new fields in option "192-2" - "Configure Interface Settings".

Field Description
Number of Receipts to Print (#10) Normally, with non-thermal printers, this field should be "1" because the receipt is printed on two or three part roll paper.  However, with thermal printers this field is normally set to "2".  The first copy includes the signature line which is signed by the guest and kept at the property for backup.  The second receipt is the guest's copy.
  • Please note: Only the first copy includes the signature line.
Seconds to Pause for Printer (#11) Once the receipt data is sent to the credit card printer, it requires time to print the data and form feed.  Field #11 allows RDP to accommodate this need and display the following text within the program.

"Printing receipt, please wait . ."

For dot matrix printers, this field is set to "8".  For thermal printers, a setting of "5" is sufficient.
Escape Code to Cut Paper (#12) This field is used to specify a special character sequence that instructs the printer to cut the paper after printing each receipt.  Table P3 is used to define known escape code sequences.  <F3 - LOOK> is available in field #12 within option 192-2 allowing for easy and accurate escape code sequence entry.

Currently, as of 7/19/2000, RDP supports the "Star TSP550 Series II" thermal printer.

Fields 13 and 14 above refer to the number of receipts and the number of seconds the program pauses while the receipt prints, respectively, for dot matrix printers.

In addition to being able to use a mix of thermal and dot matrix printers with Version 12.02, the workstation-specific settings for the SDC interface can be accessed using option 192-3 on the System Manager menu.  Option 192-3 contains the following fields.

To Enable

  1. Update to Version 12.02, revision #108.
  2. Purchase a supported thermal printer.  Currently RDP supports the "Star TSP550 Series II" thermal printer.  Contact Ann Rosko at Instruments and Equipment Company for more information regarding thermal printers.
  3. Complete fields 10, 11, and 12 in option 192-2. (Fields 13 and 14 refer to dot matrix printers)

To Disable

Do not purchase a thermal printer.
