Compressed Print Default Escape Sequences

Added 3/23/00 - Version - 12.02 and Higher

Overview

RDP Version 12.02 automatically compresses print jobs based on "printer escape sequences".  Printer escape sequences are stored in option "096" - "Update Printer Options" from the System Manager menu (98).  A sample Novell printer definition record is displayed below.

The record above defines an HP printer shared across a Novell network.  With the printer escape sequences entered in fields 7 and 8, RDP automatically sets the printer to compressed mode when a report is more than 80 characters wide (i.e. - most night audit reports).

As part of the Version 12.01 to Version 12.02 update process, RDP has added default printer escape sequences in order to automatically activate the compressed print feature.  These default printer escape sequences are stored in the C1 table, sub-record "SMLPRT".

If a Version 12.02 customer does NOT enter printer escape codes for each printer listed in option 096, RDP uses the default escape sequences stored in the C1 table.  These escape sequences are valid for a majority of printers.  However, it is possible that the default escape sequences may cause certain printer models to print in an un-readable manner.  In these instances, please DELETE C1 sub-record "SMLPRT" and add the proper printer escape sequences to each printer listed in option 096.

To Enable

  1. Upgrade to Version 12.02, revision #61.
  2. Enter valid printer escape sequences for each printer listed in option 096.

To Disable

  1. Delete sub-record "SMLPRT" from table C1.
  2. Enter the appropriate printer escape sequences in option "096" - "Update Printer Options" from the System Manager menu (98).
