RDPWin Version 2 - Additional Features and Faster Performance

9/1/2007 - RDPWin Version 2 Updates are available to all customers using RDPWin at no charge.  All new features and bug fixes will be in RDPWin Version 2 from this point forward.  Customers on RDPWin version 1.xx should upgrade as soon as possible.  Some of the advantages of RDPWin Version 2 are:

We are very excited about RDPWin Version 2 and want to make sure all customers have the following requirements in place prior to upgrading:

# RDPWin Version 2 Installation Checklist (Updated 10/30/07) Completed
1 Verify that all users are able to exit RDP for  1-5 hours
2 Workstations must use Microsoft Windows XP Professional, with 1 gigabyte of RAM memory and a fast CPU
3 Verify appropriate Hardware Requirements
4 Verify the Microsoft .Net framework is 2.0 or higher
5 Verify the Pervasive Version is 9.52 or higher
6 Make sure you have the Domain administrator password
7 Make a back-up of the RDP data directories
8 Download and install a current DOS, IRM and GDS update
9 Purge Historical Data (Only applies if upgrading to RDPWin 2 for the first time and if RDP has been used for 5 or more years).  If this step is skipped, ensure that RDP-DOS 994 is run on all critical files.
10 Review the procedure that will Create the ODBC Connection
11 Download RDPWin Server and RDPWin Client
12 Install RDPWin Server on the Data Server
13 Install RDPWin Client on the Data Server
14 Install RDPWin Client on all workstations, Citrix Servers and Terminal Servers

**For customers currently using RDP-DOS for reservations and front desk functions, upgrading to RDPWin Version 2 still allows the use of RDP-DOS for these areas.  Customers using RDPWin for housekeeping, work orders and the reporter are not affected by the upgrade.  Customers using only RDPWin have limited access to RDP-DOS for utilities only.  Use the table to determine how you want to access certain functions in RDP software to determine which modules should be installed.

Any properties using any one or more of the features listed above are required to use RDPWin for Reservations and Front Desk procedures.

Pervasive P.SQL Version 9.5 or Higher Required - Improves Performance with ODBC

The RDP system uses the Pervasive.SQL database which is one of the fastest and most reliable client-server databases available. It is in use at millions of sites worldwide.  We have made RDPWin Version 2 faster by taking advantage of the "Pervasive .Net Data Provider" which is only fully available in P.SQL Version 9.5 and higher.  The table below explains the upgrade requirements:

Current Pervasive Version Pervasive Upgrade Required
V7.x or less RDPWin Version 2 will not start with Pervasive Version 7.x or less.  All users with Version 7.xx or less must upgrade to Pervasive Version 10.x prior to updating to RDPWin Version 2.
V8.x RDPWin Version 2 can be used until 1/31/2008 with Pervasive V8.x, however the performance benefits of ODBC access will not be fully active.  After 1/31/2008 RDPWin Version 2 will not start with Pervasive V8.x.  All customers with Pervasive V8.x can update to RDPWin Version 2 immediately, but must upgrade to Pervasive Version 10.x prior to 1/31/2008.
V9.x or V10.x RDPWin Version 2 is designed for Pervasive V9.x or V10.x.  Customers with V9.x do NOT need to upgrade to V10.x, as the full performance benefits of ODBC access are available in both V9.x and V10.x.

For additional information or to purchase a Pervasive upgrade  please call Jerry Vargas at RDP at 970-845-1140.   Also see:

Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 or Higher

RDPWin uses Microsoft's .Net technology.  Microsoft has spent billions of dollars developing .Net as their platform of the future.  RDPWin Version 2 requires Microsoft .Net Framework Version 2.0 or higher, which is available at no charge for Windows XP workstations and Windows 2003 Server from Microsoft Update.

Administrator Password Required

The administrator password on the RDP Data Server is required for initial setup.

Training Required for RDP-DOS Customers Prior to
RDPWin Res/Front Desk Installation

RDP-DOS customers must complete training before using RDPWin for Reservations and Front Desk functions.  Once completed, the RDPWin Res/Front Desk module can be installed on your system.  For a training schedule see RDP Training or call 970-845-1140.

Workstations with XP Professional (Svc. Pack 2)
and Windows Vista (Svc. Pack 1) are Both Supported

RDPWin has not tested and does not support Windows XPx64, the 64 bit version of Windows XP; and there are no plans to test at this time.  Do not use Windows XPx64.

For new computer purchases or upgrades, do not order Windows XPx64.  New hardware should have Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) or Vista (Business or Ultimate) (Service Pack 1) with a minimum of 1 gigabyte of RAM memory and a 3ghz processor.
