Change System Messages

Specific references within this tutorial to specific screen displays may differ if data/demo files have not been updated.  It is advised that users get new data files before beginning a tutorial.


Add System Messages

  1. Create a new document with Microsoft Word.
  2. Type in message text.
  3. Click File, Save.
  4. Name document SystemSample.DOC.

    Note: System Messages must be saved as Word Documents (.DOC) files and then converted to PDF using Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard Edition to allow use of use tables and significantly reduce file size.  Microsoft Office includes Word 2007 which offers a free Adobe PDF Add-in for all registered users.  For example, a Word document converted to PDF creates a file using only 99KB vs. an RTF file that uses 4MG (4,000KB).  See Buy or Upgrade Adobe for details.  Save system message files with "System" as the prefix in the document name for easy identification.

  5. Save the document to the RDPNT/RDP\Messages folder.
  6. Close the document.
  7. Convert and save the Word document as a PDF file in the RDPNT/RDP\Messages folder using Adobe Standard Edition.
  8. Close the document.
  9. Access the Navigation page from the RDPWin Reservations main menu.
  10. Note: System Messages are updated each time the Start menu option is accessed. Therefore, any information added or changed is updated by entering a different menu area and then returning.
  11. Click Start from the RDPWin main menu.
  12. Click the down-arrow of the System Message List.  The new "Sample" message should be available.

Change System Messages

  1. Using Microsoft Word, access the RDPNT/RDP, Help folder.
  2. Select SystemDefault.DOC.
  3. Change "The initial file to be displayed can be configured:" to "The initial file displayed should be configured as:".
  4. Click File in the main menu and select Save. 
  5. Close the document.
  6. Click on Reservations Navigation from the RDPWin main menu.
  7. Note: System Messages are updated each time the Start menu option is accessed. Therefore, any information added or changed is updated by entering a different module and then returning.
  8. Click on Start from the RDPWin main menu.
  9. Select Default from the System Message List, and review the changes made.
