This page is intended for current RDP customers and describes the process of adding RDPWin to your system. RDPWin is our Windows-based software and accesses the same database at the same time as your existing RDP-DOS system, all RDP Interfaces, the Internet Reservation Module (IRM), and all Crystal Reports.  This simultaneous access of the same database with all RDP technologies allows you to start using RDPWIN immediately without any data conversion!  An important topic to study is RDPWin Major New Features Compared to RDP-DOS.

Phases of RDPWin for RDP-DOS Customers

All new customers installed since 8/1/2006 (over 100 installations!) have used RDPWin for all phases of their operation.  Our installed base of RDP-DOS customers has been converting to RDPWin in phases summarized by the table below.

RDP-DOS for Res/Front Desk Functions

RDPWin can be used simultaneously with your DOS system.  Many customers have elected to continue to use RDP-DOS for reservations and front desk but are using RDPWin for reports and e-mail.  There are dozens of new Crystal reports available in RDPWin as well as automatic e-mail confirmations.  To start using RDPWin Limited, please call RDP support at 970-845-7108 and schedule the "basic, no charge, RDPWin installation". 

There are new modules available in RDPWin such as work orders, enhanced housekeeping, and the Customer Relationship Management (CRM).  These new Windows-based modules can be installed today and you can still use RDP-DOS for reservations and front desk.  For more information, following the links below:

Reservations & Front Desk
Training Required

This phase of RDPWin uses RDPWin and/or RDP-DOS for reservations and the front desk.  To learn   a smooth transition from RDP-DOS to RDPWin, either the purchase of onsite training or attendance at an RDPWin training class in Vail, Colorado is required.  For more information, following the links below:

If you use RDP's new credit card encryption, Other Charge buckets, or flat rate travel agents, reservations and front desk features must use RDPWin.

RDPWin Pricing

RDPWin is included at no charge for all customers who have already purchased the Internet Reservation Module (IRM - Module RR).  To determine if this module has been purchased, press F6-Modules from the RDP-DOS menu.  Please review the information below or call us at 970-845-1140.  
Internet Reservation Module  If you have the IRM, you can RDPWin 2.xxx for reservations and front desk functions.  New modules designed exclusively for RDPWin must be purchased separately.  If you do not currently have the IRM, please call 970-845-1140 for RDPWin pricing.
Crystal Reports  RDPWin includes dozens of new and improved Crystal Reports, which are included at no additional charge for customers who have the RS-Crystal Reports module already installed on their RDP-DOS system.
New RDPWin Modules Once the IRM or RDPWin has been purchased, additional RDPWin modules can be added to your system.

Hardware Requirements for RDPWin

RDPWin is designed to work simultaneously with RDP-DOS using the same hardware.  For most customers with relatively new hardware, no changes are required.  Please check your existing equipment for the requirements below:

Supported Environments as of 8/17/2007
Workstations All workstations must use either Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista (Business or Ultimate) with all service packs installed .  RDP no longer supports Windows 95, 98, ME, or 2000 Workstations.  For RDPWin, a minimum of 1 GB of RAM and a Pentium 3GHz processor or faster are required.
Servers The data server must be Windows 2003 or 2008 32 bit (not 64 bit) with all service packs installed and at least 4GB of RAM.  RDP no longer supports Novell Netware Servers.  Feel free to call RDP Support at 970- 845-7108 with any hardware questions.
Pervasive The Pervasive database must be Version 9.52 or higher with all Service Packs installed.  See Pervasive Overview.
Printing Issues RDPWin supports all standard Windows Printing environments.  Our legacy RDP-DOS system may not be able to print if the printer is USB, TCP/IP or wireless.  Additionally, printing remotely with Terminal Services or Citrix may not work with RDP-DOS.
NetMeeting or 
Remote Desktop
To provide the highest level of support, RDP requires access to your system with Remote Desktop or Microsoft NetMeeting.  Carbon Copy and other remote tools are not supported.  See Hardware Requirements for more details.
RDPWin RDPWin is our Microsoft .Net Windows-based software.  It accesses the same database at the same time as your existing RDP-DOS and Internet Reservation Module (IRM).  Please review:

RDPWin Technology Overview 

RDPWin uses Microsoft's ".Net" technology for Windows.  This technology allows software to run on many future platforms.  Microsoft has spent billions of dollars developing ".Net"  as their platform of the future.  For a complete overview, see RDPWin Technology Overview.

Simultaneous Access By RDPWin, RDP-DOS, GDS Interface, IRM, and Crystal Reports

RDPWin is designed to work for all existing RDP-DOS customers without any data conversion.  RDP-DOS customers can install RDPWin and start using it immediately. Think of RDPWin as an "add-on" product to RDP-DOS, Crystal Reports, and the IRM.  When you install RDPWin, all existing RDP products continue to function as before.  RDPWin adds hundreds of new features without taking any away!  A given workstation can have both RDP-DOS and RDPWin installed.  The chart below shows RDPWin accessing the same database simultaneously with all other RDP products.

The opening screen in RDPWin is shown below.  There can be a system-wide message for all employees to see as well as individual messages for each employee.

Reservation Totals Not Reset at Check-in (Optional)

A key new feature in RDPWin is the ability to check-in a guest and not reset the balance due on the reservation.  Most of our hotel customers want the totals to be reset, while Vacation Rental and Condo-Hotel customers do not  The table below shows this principal.  See Vacation Rental Systems for more details.

Late Check-in Can Charge Guest for Missed Days

With RDPWin when a guest checks-in after the close of the day, or several days later, the system can automatically charge the guest for all missed days.  

Early Check-out Can Charge Guest

With RDPWin when a guest checks out early, the system can automatically charge the guest for all missed days.  

Cancel Reservation Can Charge Guests and Pay Owners Automatically

With RDPWin when a guest cancels you can charge the guest and pay the owner for various charges, such as service fees, travel insurance, forfeited room revenue, etc. 

Calculate Additional Reservation Charges 

RDPWin can calculate additional reservation charges, such as cleaning fees, booking fees, travel insurance, etc.  Each charge can be itemized on the rental contract.  When available rooms are displayed the system can calculate not only the unique room rate for each unit but the additional charges.

By clicking "F6-Arrival" RDPWin displays the arrivals for the day.  Any reservation can be highlighted and is displayed below.  From this screen you can check-in the guest, or do cancellations, or any other reservation function.
