The IRM can be customized to include property, room type, and room number pictures along with detailed HTML pages. Depending on the IRM's configuration, pictures can be displayed that help describe a room type, room number, and the property as a whole to potential Internet guests. This section is divided into the following topics.
| Displaying Property Pictures | Pictures can be displayed on the IRM home page in order to attract guests to, and familiarize them with, the property as a whole. If using more than one RDP data directory it is possible to have unique pictures for each property. See "linking from the marketing site to the IRM" |
| Displaying Room Type Pictures | Properties utilizing inventory style reservations can display pictures of individual room types during the reservation process. For example, display pictures of "King" rooms in order to give the Internet guest an idea of the accommodations. |
| Displaying Room Number Pictures | Properties utilizing pre-assign reservations can display pictures of individual room numbers during the reservation process. For example, display pictures of the "Seaside Cottage" in order to give the Internet guest an idea of the accommodations. |
| Image Guidelines | RDP guidelines for image sizes. |
The IRM's home page can display property-specific pictures. When a guest accesses the IRM, the pictures are displayed in the top-half of the main frame. A sample from the Resort Data Processing IRM demonstration follows.
The picture displayed above is stored in the \Inetpub\Wwwroot\IRM\Images folder. The naming convention is "Property_#.jpg". The "#" sign is replaced with a pre-determined picture number. For example, assume a property wants to display the following images on the IRM Home page.
| Picture File Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Property_1.jpg | The property's main lobby |
| Property_2.jpg | An aerial view of the property and its private beach |
| Property_3.jpg | The pool |
| Property_4.jpg | The exercise room and spa |
| Property_5.jpg | The main dining room |
The images are displayed in the order listed above, 1 - 5. There is not a limit to the number of pictures displayed on the IRM home page. However, please see the section titled "IRM Picture Guidelines" for a listing of suggested picture sizes.
If using more than one RDP data directory it is possible to have unique pictures for each property. See "linking from the marketing site to the IRM"
In addition to displaying pictures in the above order, the IRM can also display a picture caption. In the example above, the caption is "Resort Data Processing Headquarters". This caption is stored in the \Inetpub\Wwwroot\IRM\Captions folder. The naming convention for captions on the IRM home page is Property_#Cap.htm. With the pictures listed above, the captions, and their corresponding file names are:
| Picture File Name | Caption File Name | Caption Text |
| Property_1.jpg | Property_1Cap.htm | Main Lobby |
| Property_2.jpg | Property_2Cap.htm | Aerial View of Private Beach |
| Property_3.jpg | Property_3Cap.htm | Pool |
| Property_4.jpg | Property_4Cap.htm | Exercise Room & Spa |
| Property_5.jpg | Property_5Cap.htm | Dining Room |
With the IRM configured to book inventory reservations, the Internet guest enters arrival and departure dates along with the number of people and any guest requests. Next, available room types are displayed. Here, the IRM can be customized to display thumbnail pictures of each room type along with a detailed HTML file. Use the following steps for configuring room type pictures.
In addition to displaying the thumbnail image
on the "Available Room Types" page, the IRM can also be configured to
display a detailed HTML file. The detailed HTML file displays in
"Description" column. A sample page is displayed below.

In order for the HTML file to display in the "Description" column, use the following steps.
After a guest views available room types for the requested dates, additional room type information can be viewed by clicking the room type thumbnail image. By clicking the image, the IRM displays the "Room Type Detail" page. This HTML page contains room type details and images. Use the following steps for configuring room type detail pages.
If the property decides to use the same
description on the detail page as is displayed on the "Available Room
Types" page, the IRM automatically uses the "RoomTypeDescShort.htm"
page if "RoomTypeDescLong.htm" is not found.
If using more than one RDP data directory it is possible to have unique pictures for each property. See "linking from the marketing site to the IRM"
In addition to displaying room type detail pictures in the above order, the IRM can also display a caption for each room type detail picture. In the example above, there are two pictures of the "King" room type (K_1.jpg). Assuming the first picture displays the "Living Area" in a King room and the second picture displays the King room's balcony, the following table contains the caption names.
| Picture File Name | Caption File Name | Caption Text |
|---|---|---|
| K_1.jpg | K_1Cap.htm | Living Area |
| K_2.jpg | K_2Cap.htm | Balcony |
Room type detail captions are stored in the \Inetpub\Wwwroot\IRM\Captions folder.
In pre-assign mode, the IRM can be configured to display HTML descriptions and room number thumbnail images on the "Available Rooms" page. A sample "Available Rooms" page configured for HTML descriptions and thumbnail images is displayed below.

In order to display detailed HTML files in the "Descriptions" column, use the following naming convention for room number descriptor files.
\Inetpub\Wwwroot\IRM\UserHTML\RoomNumberDescShort.htm
Replace the text "RoomNumber" with the actual room number. For example, the HTML descriptor file for room number 101 is "101DescShort.htm".
To display a thumbnail picture for room number 101 on the "Available Rooms" page, save the thumbnail as:
\Inetpub\Wwwroot\IRM\Images\101_Small.jpg
With room number thumbnail images displayed on the "Available Rooms" page, the Internet guest can view additional details about a specific room number by clicking the thumbnail image. This hyperlink brings the guest to a detailed HTML page devoted to this specific unit. The detail page is configured to display additional room number pictures.
In order to display the detail room number HTML file, use the following naming convention.
Replace the text "RoomNumber" with
the actual room number. For example, the HTML detail file for room number
101 is "101DescLong.htm". If the property decides to use the
same description on the detail page as is displayed on the "Available
Rooms" page, the IRM automatically uses the "RoomNumberDescShort.htm"
page if "RoomNumberDescLong.htm" is not found.
To display additional images for room number 101, save the images as:
Add captions to room number detail images using the following naming convention.
\Inetpub\Wwwroot\IRM\Captions\RoomNumber_#Cap.htm
The following table summarizes room 101's detail images and their corresponding captions.
| Image File Name | Image Description | Caption | Caption File Name |
|---|---|---|---|
| 101_1.jpg | View from the room's balcony | Balcony View | 101_1Cap.htm |
| 101_2.jpg | View of living area | Living Area | 101_2Cap.htm |
| 101_3.jpg | View of private beach | Private Beach | 101_3Cap.htm |
RDP suggests the following guidelines for IRM images.
| A. | Open Microsoft Image Composer (an included part of Microsoft Front Page). |
| B. | Open the thumbnail image. |
| C. | Right-click the image and select "Properties". |
| D. | The width and height are listed in the "Sprite" tab. |
The Internet Reservation Module (IRM) allows Internet guests to make reservations directly into the RDP system without involvement from the property’s reservation staff. This section provides links to instructions for configuring the IRM after the Windows 2000/2003 bridge server has been installed.
Remember to backup the C:\Inetpub directory every day on the IRM server to avoid losing important files and pictures. See Backup for more details.
