Computer Management and the Anonymous User

Under normal circumstances, installing the Internet Information Server (IIS) as part of Windows 2000 automatically adds the IIS anonymous user (IUSR_ServerName) and sets permissions correctly.  When an Internet guest accesses the IRM website, they are logged on to the RDP Data Server as this anonymous user.  It is imperative that:

  1. The anonymous user exists on the IRM Bridge Server.

  2. The anonymous user’s password on the RDP Data Server matches the password on the IRM Bridge Server. (RDP recommends using 123456 )

  3. The anonymous user is part of the “Power User” security group on the IRM Bridge Server.

Assigning the Anonymous User to the Power User Group and Setting the Password

Use the IRM Bridge Server's “Computer Management” utility to add the anonymous user to the Power User group.

  1. Click Computer Management from the Administrative Tools toolbar on the Windows 2000 IRM Bridge Server desktop.

  2. Expand “System Tools” and “Local Users and Groups”.

  3. Make sure the IUSR_ServerName account is in the “Users” folder.

  4. Double click the anonymous user and select the “Member Of” tab.  The “Guests” group should be in the listing.  Click the "Add" button and add the "Power User" group.  Click OK to save the user account.

  5. Right Click the IUSR_ServerName and Choose Set Password. Change the password to 123456.

  6. Once the IRM is running, IUSR_ServerName can be removed from the "Power User" group.
