Installing the Pervasive Client

Install the Pervasive client from the RDP Data Server.  The client installation from the Data Server should include all installed service packs.   Use the following steps for installing the Pervasive client.

  1. Customers running Windows 2000 Data Servers must share the PVSW folder with default permissions and security (the “Everyone” group has full control).
  2. From the IRM Bridge Server, open Windows Explorer and map a network drive to the PVSW folder on the RDP Data Server.
  3. From the IRM Bridge Server, click Start | Run | ?:\Clients\Win\Setup.exe. (Replace the “?” with the network drive letter mapped in step #2.)
  4. Follow the instructions for a “Typical” Pervasive client installation.
  5. Complete all engine connectivity tests.
  6. Complete the Pervasive System Analyzer Test, select Test Network Communications to ensure the Client is communicating  with the Pervasive Server Engine correctly.
  7. Reboot the IRM Bridge Server.
  8. After rebooting the IRM Bridge Server, the following registry key must be edited using REGEDT32.  Making changes to the registry can be potentially dangerous.  Prior to making changes to the registry, be sure a full registry backup exists.
  9. A. Click Start | Run | Regedt32.
    B. Maximize the HKEY_Users Window.
    C. Expand the HKEY_Users tree and highlight the .DEFAULT key.
    D. Click Security | Permissions.
    E. Highlight the "Power User" group and add a checkmark to the "Full Control" box.
    F. Click "Apply" and "OK".
    G. Close the registry editor.

  10. With Pervasive Service Pack 3 installed, the RDP-DOS system can be launched from the IRM Bridge Server.  In order to troubleshoot IRM problems, RDP recommends running RDP-DOS from the IRM Bridge Server.
