"Unknown Query Engine" Error Running a Crystal Report

Added 6/22/2006 - Article ID#: KWin0025

Overview

In RDPWin Revision 1.236, the size of the Units.DAT file changed from 256 bytes per unit to 512.   Any Crystal report that uses the Units.DAT file displays an "Unknown Query Engine" error until that report is changed with the procedure below:

Solution

Standard RDP Reports

If the report is an RDP standard report, download the RDPWin update (Revision 1.237 or higher)

Custom Reports

If the report is a custom report:

  1. Start Crystal Reports Designer Version 10.
  2. Open the report displaying the error (for example: Reports10\FrontDesk\Folio-ABI.rpt).
  3. Click Database | Verify Database
  4. You'll get a message similar to "The database file 'Units' has been changed.  Proceeding to fix up the report!".  Click OK.  This message may again if more files have been changed.
  5. The system prompts with "The database is now up to date."  Click OK.
  6. Save the report.
  7. Repeat this procedure for ALL other custom reports that use the Units.DAT file.
