Crystal Error and Windows Vista

Issue

Customer receives error message from Crystal Reports on machines running Windows Vista:  Uanable to get the window handle for the 'AxCrystalActiveXReportViewer' control.  Windowless ActiveX controls are not supported.  (Trace: Reports-PreviewReport).  The error is caused by the compilation with Visual Studio 2008.

Solution:

Turn of Data Execution Protection (DEP).

  1. Right-click on Command Prompt from the Start | Programs | Accessories menu.
  2. Select Run as Administrator.  Login using the Administrator password.

  3. At the Command Prompt, enter "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff" and press <ENTER>.
  4. Reboot the computer.  This step cannot be skipped.
