5/20/2007 - RDP now supports Windows Vista (Business or Ultimate).
See Pervasive's website for support information for Windows Vista (Business or Ultimate).
Pervasive PSQL v10 is fully compatible with Windows Vista
(Business or Ultimate), offering our
customers a smooth and seamless transition to Microsoft's Vista and Server 2008
platforms.
Microsoft Windows Vista (Business or Ultimate) is supported with Pervasive PSQL v9 (all editions) using
the recommended solutions as documented in the White Paper: Pervasive PSQL v9
Compatibility with Windows Vista (Business or Ultimate).
Problem Environment:
Pervasive PSQL v10
Pervasive PSQL v9
Windows Vista
Windows Vista SP1
Vista White Paper
Problem Description:
Error 8520 - A timeout occurred during the initialization of the SRDE engine.
Problem Environment:
Pervasive PSQLv9 Workgroup
Pervasive PSQL v9 Client Cache engine
Microsoft Windows Vista
Vista White Paper
Error 8520
Cause of this problem:
Windows Vista limits all users to Standard user permissions, regardless of
whether or not they are logged in under an administrator-equivalent account.
With User Account Control (UAC), users that have been configured as
'Administrators' can perform certain administrative level functions by
responding to a Windows prompt, however, this behavior does not extend to the
auto-start of the Pervasive PSQL Workgroup Engine.
Solution Notes:
Pervasive recommends that you configure the Pervasive PSQL v9 Workgroup engine
to run as a service. This allows the Workgroup engine to run under the Local
System account, or under a user designated account.
For more information about about configuring the Pervasive PSQL v9 Workgroup
engine to run as a service see the White Paper:
Pervasive PSQL v9 Compatibility with Windows Vista
Problem Description:
Installation time on Windows Vista is twice or more slower than non-Vista
operating systems on equivalent hardware
Problem Environment:
Pervasive PSQL v10
Window Vista
Solution Notes:
Microsoft has confirmed that this is expected behavior because of the increased
number of filter drivers such as UAC Virtualization and Vista Search Indexing.
Our database vendor, Pervasive, has completed changes required for Vista to work successfully with
RDPWin. Windows XPx64, the 64 bit version of Windows XP, is not compatible
with RDPWin. Do not use Windows XPx64.
Microsoft is soon releasing a new Windows Server 2008; however, RDP does not
support this new server yet. Feel free to call RDP Support at 970-
845-7108 with any hardware questions.
Please do not upgrade any computers to Windows XPx64. If you are planning to purchase new computers, do not order Windows Vista or XPx64. New computers should have Windows XP Professional, with Service Pack 2, and include a minimum of one gigabyte (1GB) of RAM memory with a 3ghz processor.
