RDPWin Help File Not Displayed

Added 6/27/2005 - Article ID#: KWin0011

Modified 7/17/2007 by Suzette

Overview

When viewing the RDPWin help file, the help file pane may have either of the following messages:

Action Cancelled
Not Allowed - Security

This error occurs due to a security update from Microsoft.  The error only occurs on systems accessing the RDPWin help file on a network drive.  This error does not occur if the help file is on the workstation.  See the Microsoft knowledge base article 896054.

Solution

To fix this issue without an update, RDP Support provides a fix to the registry as follows:

  1. Use FTP to transfer the file CHMHelpFileFix.reg from the RDPWin folder on RDP's ftp server
    ftp://ftp.resortdata.com/public/Programs/CHMHelpFileFix.reg
  2. Save this file in the RDP root folder (normally F:\RDP).
  3. From each workstation, double click on this file and confirm the change to the registry.
  4. Restart RDPWin and the help file should be displayed correctly.

Note:  If the above solution doesn't fix the problem, do the following steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK
  2. Locate and then click the following subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions

  1. Right-click the MaxAllowedZone value, and then click Modify
  2. In the Value data box, type 3, and then click OK.
  3. Quit Registry Editor
  4. Restart RDPWin and the help file should be displayed correctly.
