Calculate "Best Available Rates"

The system can now calculate rates for reservations based on the "Best available rate" for each day.  This feature requires installation of RDPWin to set up new tables, as well as the purchase of one day of training.  RDP-DOS can then use the new tables to calculate rates. Please call RDP sales to purchase and schedule training.

Best Available Rate

The concept of "Best Available Rate" is to establish the best rate plan a guest can get for each day in the future.  The system then always uses that rate plan for that day.  In the sample screen below the controlling rate plan "LOW1" has been created.  For 03/01 the lowest rates are:

All the reservationist has to do is select the "LOW1" controlling rate plan and the system will automatically fill in the rate plans above.

Notice also on the screen below that the new "best available rates" appear on the same screen with package rates, non-package rates, and the new "rate plan patterns" (see below). This is called "all rate plan display mode".   The screen can be made to display just one type of rate plan by pressing the <ALT> and <F8> keys at the same time.  You can also control the starting mode with switch 425-13, "Starting Rate Plan Mode on Yield Management Screen".

Entry of Best Available Rates into System Tables

The best available rates for each day are entered into the system tables using RDPWin.

Changing Reservations with Best Available Rate

If a reservation has been assigned a Best Available controlling rate plan the system will find the best available rates when reservations are changed and days added.  For example, if a reservation was from 3/1 to 3/5 and then changed to depart on 3/6, the system would automatically find the lowest rate for the new day (3/6), which in the example below is the "FLYR" rate plan at $65.00 per day.

New Switch To Verify New Rates On Changes

There is a new switch, (Menu 98, Option 425 Switch 14) that forces the system to go to the yield management screen on any reservation change that affects rates. This can be very useful as it allows the reservationist to inform the guest of the new rates that result from reservation changes. To implement this new feature:

  1. Click here to download the latest version of RDP-DOS
  2. From Menu 98, Option 425, change Switch 14 "Go to Yield Mgmt screen on date, unit#, or unit type change" to YES.
  3. To see the results, change a reservation and add an extra day.  Then change it back to remove the day.  If you do not like the behavior, change the switch to "NO" and the system will behave as is used to.
