RDP Customer Conference - September 20 - 23, 2004

I would like to invite you to the 22nd Annual RDP Customer Conference at the beautiful Lodge at Vail, in Vail, Colorado from Monday, September 20th through Thursday, September 23, 2004. The conference will be very exciting, as we will be presenting our new Windows based system, RDPWin.  Customers attending the conference will be given priority for RDPWin installation, which will be available starting October 1, 2004.

This year we are planning on several guest speakers to present solutions to problems common to many of our customers, including e-mail spam control, network security, wireless guest internet access, GDS interfacing, website marketing and more.  All customers should plan on attending the conference to learn about the upgrade path to RDPWin, and see how to optimize your system with our new modules and features.

Optional Crystal Reports Certification and IRM Optimization

RDP is offering our two-day Crystal Reports Certification course prior to the conference on Friday, September 17th and Saturday the 18th.  This class provides a great opportunity to learn how to improve the look of confirmations, registration cards, guest e-mails, and system reports.  We are also offering a one-day class on optimizing the Internet Reservation Module (IRM) on Friday, September 24th (after the conference).  Both classes are held at the RDP training center in Vail, with a maximum of 20 students.  RDP provides a computer for each student.  Details on both classes are included in this document.

Reserve a room at the Lodge at Vail for a $150 Discount

If you book your room at the Lodge at Vail, the cost of the complete 4-day customer conference, including the banquet, BBQ, computer lab, and all sessions, is $750.  If you do not wish to stay at the Lodge at Vail, the cost will be $900.  To thank you for helping RDP meet our room block requirements, we are also offering a free one-hour consulting session to all customers who stay at the Lodge at Vail.

The Customer Conference has become very popular over the years, and September is a beautiful time in Vail, one of the world's premier resorts. Session #2 RDPWin - Windows Based Software Overview

RDP's new Windows software is called RDPWin and uses Microsoft's ".Net" technology, which has all the power of a traditional Windows program and much more.  RDPWin will be the core RDP technology for the next 10 years.  This session will include an overview of RDPWin, including:

All customers who have already purchased the Internet Reservation Module (IRM) will receive a copy of RDPWin at no additional charge.  Customers without the IRM can purchase RDPWin at a discount by attending the conference.  Customers attending the conference will be given priority for RDPWin installation, which will be available on October 1, 2004.

Many customers have expressed an interest in RDPWin, but were concerned about reliability of new software. RDP has addressed this issue by designing RDPWin to function on the same database as your existing RDP DOS system.  As a result, RDPWin can be installed and used immediately, without any data conversion.  Your existing RDP DOS programs, as well as all interfaces, Crystal Reports, and the IRM, will continue to function exactly as before.  With RDPWin, customers obtain all the benefits of a new Windows based system without losing any of the existing features provided by RDP DOS, the IRM, and Crystal Reports!

Session #4 Generate Revenue with IRM, Website Improvements

Several years ago, RDP released the Internet Reservation Module (IRM) to provide guests, travel agents, and groups with the ability to book reservations directly into the RDP system using the Internet.  The IRM has proved to be one of the best tools to generate additional revenue; however, installation of the IRM is only the first step.  This session will examine strategies to increase the number of visitors to your marketing website (and then to the IRM), as well as how to use the IRM for maximum bookings. The session includes a guest speaker with expertise on the Website Marketing.



Session #5 Global Distribution System Overview and RDP Interface to GDS
Date: Monday, September 20, 2004

The Global Distribution System (GDS) is a computer network originally designed by the airlines to provide travel agents with access to hotel, condominium, rental car, and airline availability.  If your property is signed up with a GDS provider, travel agents can make reservations, without calling the property, by using their GDS connected computer.  Additionally, guests can make room reservations from any Internet workstation by using a GDS powered travel website, such as Expedia.  Over 20% of all reservations are currently made via the GDS with an increasing percentage each year.  This session includes a guest speaker with GDS expertise.  Topics include:

  • Overview of the GDS and How To "Get in the Game"
  • How to Calculate How Much Additional Revenue You Can Generate with the GDS
  • RDP Interface to the GDS – Available Now!

Session #6 Hosted Cocktails, Hors d' Oeuvres and Banquet with RDP Staff
Date: Monday, September 20, 2004

The reception and banquet have always been a highlight of the RDP Customer Conference.  The evening begins with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. The Conference location offers spectacular views of the mountains and dinner is first class. (Vegetarian meals are available upon advance request.)

All RDP personnel attend the reception, providing ample opportunity for personal discussion.  In addition, the reception is an excellent, informal environment for customers to swap tips and exchange ideas.  In years past, when the dinner has ended, the RDP group has walked into Vail Village to enjoy the nightlife and dancing.  The price of the banquet for one person is included with each Conference ticket.  Additional guests are $100.

RDP's computer lab has proven to be very popular in the past.  The lab provides workstations to experiment with the new features presented during sessions.  RDP Support and Programming personnel staff the lab.  RDPWin, Crystal Reports, the Internet Reservation Module (IRM) and Version 12.02 will be available for use.  This service is included as part of the Customer Conference Package.

To help meet our room block requirements, RDP is also offering a free 1-hour consulting session to all customers who stay at the Vail Marriott.  These consulting sessions will be held in a private section of the computer lab.

    Session #10 Work Orders and Room/Property Asset Management

    RDP has released the "Work Order and Asset Management" module, based on our new Windows based RDPWin technology.  The module is designed to automate the process of entering and completing a work order request, as well as to track all equipment, vehicles, room inventory, and assets.  A Work Order Monitor screen is available to show the current status of all work orders, and it auto-refreshes as new work orders are added and existing work orders are edited or completed.   Work orders are fully integrated with the front desk and all other RDP modules.  This session will cover the following topics:

    Session #11 Crystal Reports Version 10: New Reports, E-mail Marketing & Setup

    One of the most powerful aspects of the RDP system is Crystal Reports, which provides over 275 standard reports, complete with graphs, charts, what-if analysis, and much more.  RDP frequently adds powerful new reports, which are included at no charge as part of the support contract.  However, most customers don't realize the new reports are available.  This session will cover all existing RDP crystal reports.  Each report will be displayed on the screen and explained in detail.  Suggestions will be taken for modifications to reports or the creation of new reports.  RDP has allocated research and development time to implement suggestions in the next few months.

    This session is about using existing reports, and does not cover how to create or modify reports.  Customers looking for detailed Crystal Reports training should plan on attending the optional two-day Crystal Reports Certification class held Friday, September 17th and Saturday, September 18th at RDP's Corporate Training Center.



    Session #12 Vacation Rentals, Condominium, and Timeshare Workshop

    Since RDP was founded in 1981, we have sold systems in the condominium, vacation rental management and timeshare/interval ownership marketplace. As a result, we now have over 24 years of experience with the complex world of owner accounting. This session is design to present the new features that apply to our condominium and timeshare customers, along with a customer workshop to suggest improvements. Topics include:

    Session #14 Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Frequent Guest, Centralized Data, and Rewards

    RDP now has a Customer Relationship Management module that is similar to an airline frequent-flyer program.  All guest visits are tracked from multiple RDP systems, which provides one database for marketing, no matter how many RDP systems you own.  Points can be awarded for each reservation.  The number of points can be different for all seasons, room types, total dollars spent, and other variables.  Guests can make reservations and redeem their points.  Restrictions can be applied to control when points can be redeemed.  A complete tracking system of all points awarded and redeemed is included.  The following topics are covered in this session:

    RDP's Internet Reservation Module (IRM) allows millions of potential guests, groups, travel agents, & wholesalers to check availability and make commission-free reservations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.   The IRM is designed to work in conjunction with your existing marketing website.  Reservations are stored immediately in the same database as normal "phone-in" reservations, with one database for true "last room" availability.  New features available:

    Session #16 Enhancement Requests and RDP's Future

    The software world is constantly changing.  In order to make sure RDP's products remain the industry leader, we continually improve our existing products and create new modules.  Resort Data Processing develops new features and modules with the help of our customer base.  Last year, many features requested during this session were implemented within a few months.  Join this session in order to have "your voice heard" when it comes to allocating research and development resources in the coming year.



    Session #17 BBQ at RDP Corporate Headquarters
    Date: Thursday, September 23, 2004
    Start Time: 11:30 a.m. End Time: 3:30 p.m.

    The final event of the 2004 Customer Conference is an informal BBQ at RDP's Corporate Headquarters, located in Eagle-Vail, just 5 miles west of Vail.  For those customers without transportation, we will arrange a it for you.  The good food and company compliment the beautiful views of the mountains.  Drinks, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, vegetarian alternatives, and all the trimmings will be provided. The BBQ provides an excellent opportunity for our customers to interact with each other and RDP staff in a relaxed environment.  The BBQ is included with the Conference package.  Additional guests are $30.

    Note:  RDP Support will be closed all day on Thursday, September 23rd so employees can move RDP equipment from the computer lab to RDP Corporate Headquarters.  Also, all support employees will be at the BBQ to meet customers and provide informal consulting.

    This session is optional and is not included in the Customer Conference.

    This "hands-on" seminar is beneficial to all IRM customers.  The course, held at RDP's Corporate Training Center, provides each customer with his or her own Windows 2000 workstation with a copy of the Internet Reservation Module installed.  Not only will the topics introduced during the Customer Conference (Session 3) be expanded upon, IRM websites will be presented that have been optimized for both performance and functionality.

    Over the past three years, RDP has learned many Internet marketing techniques from web-savvy customers.  These techniques will be introduced, along with configuration tips documented from the past two years of IRM installations.  In addition to Internet marketing techniques, this seminar focuses on customizing the IRM with Microsoft Front Page and optimizing Windows 2000 Servers with Internet Information Services (IIS).  Major topics presented at the seminar include:

    Whether your property is looking to increase IRM traffic, seeking assistance with the IRM customization, or planning an IRM installation, this extra day in Vail will prove invaluable.

    RDP encourages early enrollment for this one-day seminar.  In order to maximize the seminar's effectiveness, enrollment is limited to the first 20 customers.

    Cost for this one-day seminar is $250.
