The Power of E-Mail

 

E-mail is one of the most powerful features for Marketing.  RDP has extensive E-mail capabilities built into the system.  See the following links for details:

RDP Supports RDP Does not Support
RDP created Reports
  • General Crystal Issues - for example, you want to create a Crystal report for you accounting system.  This is not supported by RDP
Reporter
  • Any other third party program
Simple Changes
  • Complex reports created by customer
Export with "E-mail" option of Reporter to HTML and Word
  • RDP does not support all the other export capabilities, such as ODBC, PDF, Access, Excel, etc.

 

 Requirements for E-mailing with RDP Reporter

   

Installed SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server on site.  Directions for installing an SMTP server can be found under Reporter Help, E-mailing Reports.  All workstations that will be sending E-mail have to use this SMTP server as their "Outgoing SMTP server" in Outlook Express.

 

An SMTP Server is included at no charge with the following operating systems

 

SMTP server options:

 

On workstation Outlook Express must be configured to work by first testing e-mail functionality.  As a general rule, if Outlook Express can send an e-mail, then Reporter will be able to send e-mail.  Always set up Outlook Express FIRST and test, before trying Reporter.

 

Customers DO NOT HAVE TO Buy the IRM to be supported with Reporter e-mail.  All requirements will need to be meet in order for support to be established using Reporter e-mail.

 

Work Station Setup:  

 

On a Windows 2000 or XP workstation having Internet Explorer version 6.0 or higher, and RDP Reporter version 57 or higher installed.

 
Make Outlook Express the Default E-mail Client.  Open Internet Explorer, click on Tools, Internet Options, Programs.  E-mail program should be Outlook Express.
 
Open E-mail (Outlook Express).  Go to Tools, Accounts, Add

 

Incoming Mail POP3
  • POP3 Server is not free, and will need to be purchased to receive incoming e-mails.  This is not needed for Reporter to e-mail.  Enter actual POP3 Server, or a random value, IE. "sdfaasdf," but some value needs to be entered.
Out going Mail SMTP
  •  Value will need to be SMTP server name, or can be IP address of server.
